The Great Gatsby | Review

One of the most anticipated films of the year, The Great Gatsby (part of  TheLifeStyleElite.com’s Guide To 2013 Summer Films),is set in the prosperous Long Island of 1922. The novel The Great Gatsby provided a critical social history of America during the Roaring Twenties within its narrative. That era, known for unprecedented economic prosperity, the evolution of jazz music, flapper culture, bootlegging ,and other criminal activity, is plausibly depicted in Fitzgerald’s novel. Fitzgerald utilizes these societal developments of the 1920s to build Gatsby’s stories. With the novel being an American classic it is hard to think that anymore would try to make it….let alone remake it. Yet Baz Luhrmann’s the director that made Leonardo DiCaprio a star, has taken on the job. We were privy to an advanced screening of the film, and we must say…this film is visually stunning, stylistically beautiful.

From the moment to film opens you are immediately captavited with stunning visuals that help to draw you into a time long gone by. Fading from a 1920’s style film grain to a brilliant gold the tiles truly pop out (especially when seen in IMAX 3D) that eventually transitions into what appears to be a lake with a faint glimmer of a green light across the other side of it.

At this point there is a voice over

  DiCaprio plays an amazing depiction of J. Gatsby, in which the audience begins to root for the character.

Throughout the film you begin to understand that deep down Gatsby is a hopeless romantic,and you root for him even more. It is at this point the story gets a bit crazy.
