Rolling Stones Announce Their “Zip Code” Tour And Reissue Of “Sticky Fingers”

It’s their first stadium tour of North America since 2007
and it will be running from May 25th to July 15th: the Rolling Stones’ new tour
is named after their 1971 Sticky Fingers album and its jeans-clad cover, which
is also being reissued on May 25th.The band has confirmed dates for the
tour, which will start in Petco Park in San Diego in May and have Mick Jagger,
Charlie Watts, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood headline venues across North
America until July. Mick Jagger said in a statement that
they’re excited to be touring North America again over the summer, and they’re
looking forward to “playing your favorite songs” and “being back
on stage.” The tour tickets are already on sale, with fans queuing up across the
country to get their seats.

The name of the tour isn’t just a
reference to the location, but also to the famous jeans-clad cover of the Stones’
1971 Sticky Fingers album, which will be reissued on May 25. The tour has been hotly anticipated across the country after the
original schedule reveal was pushed back from the 19th of March to March 31.

The reissue of Sticky Fingers will
include previously unreleased studio outtakes from the original recording
sessions for the album as well as live recordings from that era. It comes out a
day before the first stadium shows on the new tour, which is the first since
the two-year-long A Bigger Bang Tour. The new album will come out in several
different formats. The original album was recorded in London and Alabama and
came out just before the Stones went into tax exile in southern France, leaving
England following a farewell tour. The original album cover featured a famous
working zipper and artwork from Andy Warhol.

The stage design for the Zip Code
tour apparently includes a “thrust” which “extends deep into the
audience” and will allow interaction between the Stones and their fans,
while the tour’s set design will feature video screens as well as special
effects which enhance show’s “high-octane experience.”

The Zip Code tour follows the
Stones’ On Fire tour, which took them across Europe, Australia, Asia, and New
Zealand during 2014. A number of tour dates ended up being rescheduled after
L’Wren Scott, Mick Jagger’s girlfriend, died in March of 2014. The band also
lost Bobby Keys, their long-time saxophonist, last year. He was present on many
of the band’s best-known recordings, like Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street,
and Let It Bleed.

The Zip Code stop in Indianapolis on
the 4th of July will be the first time in history that the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway has seen a concert over a non-race weekend, according to the president
of the Speedway. He noted that the “biggest band in the world” will
be playing the “biggest sporting venue in the world,” which will
provide an “unbelievable experience” for fans.

The set list for the concerts is
full of classic hits like “Paint It Black,” “Gimme
Shelter,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” and more. It will also feature
“special gems” from the Stones’ back catalog, according to the band.

Keith Richards has said that once
the Stones are done touring at the end of the summer, he will release a new
solo album. The band is also considering making a new Rolling Stones album as
well.
