John Wick | Review

Keanu Revees returns as ex-hitman, John Wick who comes out of retirement to due to a series of misfortune events. Set in the backdrop of New York City, John Wick’s multiple trailers shows a man that is oddly feared,but does not go into why he is feared,and leads us the wonder who is John Wick really? Why is he feared? From the moment the film opens you are immediately dropped into the aftermath of a epic battle, with a bloodied,and bruised,John Wick. As he looks like he is about to die we are privy to a flashback showing what leads up to this chaotic aftermath. In the flashback we see a happy John Wick how is in love with his wife, but like all good things it comes to an end when she contracts an illness. In a heart wrenching scene Wick has to pull the plug on his dying wife. Heart broken the reason he seemingly left the chaotic lifestyle of a hitman, it is at her funeral that he is visited by an old friend from his former life offering his condolences, yet also wondering if he would be coming back to his former job. After the funeral when all seems lost Wick receives a strange delivery late at night. Attached to this package is a hand written note from his wife urging him to go on,and find something else to love. (in away begging him not to slip back into his former life) The gift she leaves him a beagle named “Daisy”,and as it is the final gift from his wife to not only place all his love on,but to help him get over his grief. As Wick tries to make good on his effort as his wife wants it is quite clear the Wick has no idea how to take care of Daisy. He can be likened to a bachelor that is left alone with a baby, which leads to some quite comical moments, but his wife’s plan seems to work as you can see they might be a chance for him to find happiness.

On a chance drive with Daisy Wick fills up his 1969 Mustang gas tank, he runs into three Russian speaking men who inquire about his car, and want to purchase it. After he explains its not for sell they begin to insult him in Russian unaware of he understand,and speak the dialect very well, when he responds.

The group of me break into house to steal his car after feeling slighted by him earlier,but once in the house decides to have a little fun by blindsiding him and assaulting him while the one thing that is keeping him sane,Daisy, tries to intervene is brutal murdered. After losing his wife then the one thing that kept him grounded,and way from the life Wick goes on the ultimate mission of revenge.
