His work has been featured everywhere print to various digital medias,and even in an exclusive interview of our most popular model the very beautiful Christi K. Darion Ko has a way of capturing the subtle beauty of the simplest landscape while illuminating the vivid colors of the oceans,flowers,and the skies in each photograph. Though his ample body of work speaks volumes to each viewer; little is known about the man behind the lens. After months of searching for the elusive artist we finally tracked him down, and to get a few answers.
What’s your background?
My nationality is Khmer (Cambodian)
Where are you from?
I’m from Lowell, Massachusetts,but I am currently living in Santa Monica, CA
What is it about photography that made you want to become a photographer?
To be honest… it’s actually the camera itself that got me started shooting. I admire the craftsmanship of a camera. My first camera was a Nikon FM3A that thing was a beauty.
What got you started in photography?
When I went back to my country for the first time, Cambodia… I started using my camera back at my homeland and I started appreciated life more despite what my country went through. So I had to make the best of who am through photography a niche I just picked up on a whim.
How long have you been a photographer?
Well I believe it has been 6 years now.
What is your favorite subject to shoot?
I can’t say, I believe every subject is inspiring in it’s own way. But if I were to choose, it would be traveling photos even though I shoot mostly women.
What do you love about living in L.A.?
The struggle, it keeps me on my toes. If I can’t live through the storm how I am going to dance in the rain?
What is your favorite photography gear to use?
I love shooting with my Fujifilm X-E1. Recently Sony is changing the game with their compact full frame body. My favorite would be my Sony A7r.
What is your favorite photograph you ever took?
That’s a tough one, every photo has a story of its own so I cant pick one favorite photo out of the thousand I love.
What is your favorite fashion item?
A blazer, you can where anything with a blazer and still looks sharp. I like wearing sweats, shorts and chucks then you pop on a blazer and boom, Good Looking!
What is the hardest thing you have found about being a photographer?
Making a living being a photographer is tuff especially in the city I live in. Everything can be done through a phone and everyone holding a camera can do it. So being taken seriously is not like the old days.
What can’t you live with out?
Fruits… talking about off topic. Yeah I can’t live with out fruits if I had to choose. I need my fruits!!
Who is your favorite shoe designer?
For the ladies Jimmy Choo is my favorite designer, and for men’s shoe designers I have no preference.
What are your favorite fashion designers?
My favorite designers are Ralph Lauren, Zara, G Star Raw ,and AllSaints.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Comfy but yet sharp. I just love comfy clothes when I buy an item it has to be comfortable doesn’t matter what it is.
What is the most underrated item in menswear?
I would have to say the belt.
What is in your iTunes / Bookshelf / BluRay player at the moment?
iTunes, I have it on the oldies / Bookshelf, I don’t have one. / BluRay player I don’t have one either. I still buy DVD’s
Who is your Favorite Musician?
I don’t have a favorite. My favorite artist are from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s
Where do you see your photography in the next 10 years going?
I would like to see my work around the world. I want to be able to travel the world through my work ,help out the countries that needs help ,and document different parts of the countries that most of us has never seen before. The world is too big to be staying in one place.
