Breitling for Bentley Light Body Midnight Carbon

The Breitling for Bentley Light Body Midnight Carbon may have been crafted for the eminent car maker, but it could just as easily have been dreamed up for the Dark Knight. The 1,000-piece limited edition timepiece, released in conjunction with the ten year anniversary of Breitling’s partnership with Bentley, is lightweight but strong, with a titanium case cloaked in a stealthy black carbon-based coating. Beyond all that black on black, there’s enough luminescent coating on hands and hour points to ensure readability, while a splash of red piques visual interest. The red-tipped center chrono seconds hand sweeps the dial in 30 seconds rather than the typical 60, indicating elapsed seconds on a chapter ring also marked in red. The chrono system is based on a 1926 Breitling patent and provides for easy reading to an 1/8th of a second. Also unique to the Midnight is a variable tachometer: it’s activated via the rotating pinion bezel and can calculate average speed regardless of how much time has passed. The self-winding 38-jewel Breitling Caliber 25B is chronometer-certified, as are all Breitling calibers. The bezel and signed rubber strap both feature the familiar Breitling for Bentley knurled pattern reminiscent of the Bentley radiator grille. It’s almost fitting that the brands’ winged “B” logos are nearly identical: both stand for prestige, performance, and excellence with a passion for fine mechanical elements thrown in for good measure. So what if you can’t afford the Bentley this watch is the next best thing.
